Along with key new features for photonics designers, the 2015brelease builds on the photonic integrated circuit design featuresdeveloped with PhoeniX Software’s OptoDesigner. Advances in theworkflow between INTERCONNECT and OptoDesigner support backannotation and layout versus schematic (LVS) verification of postlayout, packaging ready designs. The interface enables a flexibleschematic driven or layout driven design methodology and, alongwith accurate coordination of schematic and physical layoutsthrough all stages of design from concept to final tapeout, allowsdesigners to improve design reliability and yield.

Supporting an eigenmode solver as well as various methods forsimulating guided propagation of optical fields over longdistances, MODE Solutions is an ideal tool for the design, analysisand optimization of guided components. The eigenmode (FDE) solveraccurately calculates the physical properties of guided modes intruly arbitrary waveguide geometries. The 2.5D varFDTD solver inMODE Solutions enables rapid and accurate simulation of planarwaveguide geometries such as SOI tapers and ring resonators,whereas the eigenmode expansion (EME) solver is ideal forsimulating long distance light propagation in waveguide devicessuch as spot-size converters, tapers and Bragg gratings.

INTERCONNECT is a photonic integrated circuit design environmentthat enables the design, simulation and analysis of photonicintegrated circuits. Complex and large scale optoelectroniccircuits can be easily and reliably designed and analyzed usingcircuit elements within a hierarchical schematic editor.
Both time domain and frequency domain analysis is supported withinINTERCONNECT. Time domain simulation is performed using a data flowsystem simulator, allowing for more flexibility than traditionaldiscrete time or time-driven simulators. Frequency domainsimulation is performed using scattering data analysis to calculatethe overall circuit response. Sophisticated visualization toolsallow for the analysis of circuit behavior including amplitude,phase, group delay and dispersion.
Along with FDTD Solutions, MODE Solutions, and DEVICE, INTERCONNECTis a key part of Lumerical’s comprehensive photonic design andanalysis tools.
